Ile du Gaou: One of the most beautiful presqu’îles, wild and unspoilt
Published on 05/11/2024 by CAMPASUN
If you are staying at one of our campsites in Sanary, a visit to the Ile du Gaou is essential to discover the natural charm of the region. The peninsula of Gaou located at the end of Six-Fours-les-Plages, after the Brusc consists of two islets: the island of little Gaou, known for its statue of Venus and the island of Grand Gaou, surrounded by the sea. You can go from one island to another via a wooden walkway, accessible on foot.
This peninsula offers an idyllic setting thanks to the Brusc lagoon, the island of Embiez and the massif of Cap Sicié..
HOW TO GET TO THE ILE DU GAOU?
by car
For those who prefer the car, access to the Ile du Gaou is simple. From Sanary-sur-Mer, follow the signs towards the Brusc. Once you arrive, you will find a parking lot near the bridge leading to the island. Note that parking is charged during high season. The nearest car park is Gardiole. From the parking lot, follow the path towards Pointe Du Gaou. The trail will lead you directly to the little Gaou, then to the big Gaou, accessible via a wooden footbridge.

The mistral network bus network also allows you to reach the Ile du Gaou. From Sanary or Six-Fours-les-Plages, line 87 serves the stop «Le Brusc», located a few minutes walk from the bridge leading to the island.
cycling
Cycling enthusiasts will enjoy the ride to the Ile du Gaou. From Sanary, a cycling route runs along the coast, offering great views of the sea. Once on site, bicycles must be left at the entrance, as they are prohibited on the island to preserve its wild character.
